SoniaROBINSONOn Thursday 24th July 2025 at Courtlands Care Home, Sonia aged 98 years.

Much loved twin to Patricia and aunt, great aunt and friend.

Sonia's funeral will be held at Treswithian Downs Crematorium on Tuesday 19th August at 11am. Sonia would want you to be comfortable and colourful and, if possible, wear a touch of cerulean blue or any shade to reflect the colours of the sea which she loved to paint.

Family flowers only. Donations, in Sonia's memory, for The Royal Society of Marine Artists may be sent to Marcus Wilkinson, Funeral Director, Alfred Smith & Son, 31 Clarence Street, Penzance TR18 2NX (01736) 362592 or via www.alfredsmithfunerals.co.uk

For the Howie family of Scotland, it was a privilege and a delight to meet Sonia, who we variously came to know through Uncle Wilson. My family, including those no longer with us, myself, my husband Graham, son Nick and brother Alec were all very fond of Sonia.

Graham, Nick and I spent lovely times with Sonia and Wilson when we went on holiday to Cornwall, when they came to Bath where we used to live, or when they visited Argyll in Scotland where my family lived, and some still are based. Sonia was cheerful, kind and wise with a great sense of humour and took great interest in what everyone in the Howie clan was doing.

Sonia’s artistic talent and achievements were stunning. We have several beautiful paintings by her which bring us much joy and will continue to do so as each one is attached to a memory. We also have a little painting that Sonia encouraged Nick to do when he was 7 years old and staying in Mousehole with her and Wilson for a few days. While he was painting, Sonia sketched him at work, and we have the drawing hanging beside his painting - very special.

She always ended phone calls and chats with the same lovely comment : “will you do something for me? Look after yourselves and have fun”. Sonia was a truly wonderful person, and we will always cherish our memories of her lovely smile and unique spirit.

Bless you Sonia.

In memory of a dear friend who shared our love of family and Cornwall.
Her paintings brought much joy to others, especially those of her boats, harbours and coastal scenes.
We are all the better for having known you Sonia, thank you.
